Bright - Well built - Should come with a case Jul 29, 2008 This is one of Coleman's timeless designs. The PowerHouse model is a bit brighter and allows the use of dual fuels. The build quality has remained the same compared to my 10 year old single fuel model (still using) so I expect this to last as long. No need to worry about disposing or using up propane tanks. Good fuel capacity and long life of lantern makes this a must have for any campsite. Also great for outdoor emergency use in a power outage. Easy to find replacement mantels.
This item would have easily gotten a 5 star if not for the following,
1) This should come with a case, for ease of carrying and packing - to protect the glass.
2) Still requires a long lighter or match to ignite unlike the northstar versions with ignition (but harder to find mantels).

improved classic Jul 16, 2007 The usual loud hiss of the traditional coleman lantern is missing but what takes its place is a quiet whisper of sound. We were very pleased with this lantern and our only complaint is the small matchlight hole. The common butane lighters are too big to fit through the matchlight hole. You need a fireplace match to reach the mantles because a regular match will not reach.

Coleman Two-Mantle Dual Fuel Powerhouse Lantern May 07, 2007 Just got it. Works great. Puts out a lot of light using gasoline.

Must have for camping Aug 21, 2006 C. Anderson was right on - a gallon of gas would last a LONG time with this lantern. I specifically bought it to avoid those silly propane tanks, and white lantern fuel is very expensive. This lantern is very bright, and the fuel last a long time even when it's fully cranked.

Excellent lantern -- worth every penny Aug 13, 2006 I camp 4-5 times a year, a total of 14-15 days total. Every night, I have a lantern going for at least 2-3 hours while the family plays games, reads, or talks. If you use a propane lantern, you'll go through 16 oz. propane tanks every few days -- at $3.99 a pop.
Or, if you have a lantern like this, you can fill a gallon can once a year with unleaded gas at $3.00 (current price in Aug 2006). I have two of these -- and they'll pay for themselves within a couple of years... if you can keep your neighbors from borrowing them!
